An Introduction to Snowshoeing in the Bavarian Alps

Snowshoeing is an enchanting way of moving through wintery landscapes- away from the hustle and bustle of ski slopes, you get to experience peace and quiet and the mountains in a whole other setting. Join us for this beginner snowshoe tour through the magical winter wonderland of the Bavarian Pre-Alps. Along the tour you will learn all about tour planning, equipment, winter mountain safety and first aid as well as the principles for nature- friendly touring in winter

Tour Highlights

  • Top tips and tricks for snow-shoe walking from an experienced and certified snowshoe guide

  • Learn how to enjoy winter tours in nature with low environmental impact

This is will be a gentle tour with 400m of elevation gain and 4-5hrs of walking. No previous snowshoe experience required. Some hiking experience an advantage but not necessary.

We will decide the tour location according to conditions at the time. The meeting point will be a point easily accessible by public transportation from Munich (Approx 1.5hrs) and car. From there we will fit the equipment and then head out on our tour.

Our tour will take us along snowy trails through forest, open meadows and include a stop in a cosy mountain hut along the route. We will return to the starting point at the end of the tour.

  • Guided snowshoe walk with certified snowshoe guide
  • Snowshoes (and telescopic poles if needed)
  • Tour information and detailed equipment list
  • Travel to/ from start/end (Can be organised upon request)
  • Food, drinks
  • Warm and waterproof Hiking Boots (Ankle support necessary)
  • Gloves (one thick pair and one thin pair)
  • Hat
  • Gaiters
  • Waterproof outer layers and warmer layers
  • Hot drink
  • Lunch and snacks

You will receive a kit list upon registration in our Snowshoe Whatsapp Group.

Bavarian Pre-Alps

Travel with group via public transport from Munich Hauptbahnhof - organised via group in WhatsApp chat. Travel costs not included in price. From Munich we recommend getting the Bayern ticket. This costs €25 for one person, plus €7/person extra for every extra person you add on up to 5 people.
