Only one hour by train from Munich,
the Bavarian Alps offer one of the most accessible winter hiking and snowshoeing destinations in Germany. Our women’s winter hut weekend is a guided alpine experience designed for those seeking a short winter escape from Munich - combining snowshoe hiking, nature connection, charming mountain hut accommodation, and mindful walking in a small supportive group of like-minded women. Read on for our account of this year’s adventure.
How is it that two days in the mountains feel longer than a typical week? Our recent Women’s Winter Hut weekend in the Bavarian Alps certainly had this vibe, as an international group of women left the bustle of Munich behind to find something deeper in the snow: connection - to nature, to one another, and to ourselves.
The Journey Begins: Stepping into the Stillness
The adventure started at Munich Hauptbahnhof. By 10am, we were already on the trails, heading into a hidden winter wonderland. Ascending through forest, we dedicated time to mindful walking, using different nature prompts to ground ourselves. As the snow deepened, we strapped on our snowshoes and ventured onto lesser-frequented paths..
Beneath the "blanket" of snow (where we imagined many a marmot was tucked up for the season), a new landscape opened before our eyes. From the trail between rocks and snow, to clouds and sun creating a magical display over the mountain tops, there was so much awe and wonder to take in.

A Supportive Climb: More Than Just a Hike
What makes a women-only tour so special isn't just the pace; it’s the culture of encouragement, support and empowerment that flows through every aspect of a tour. New members are absorbed naturally into the fold, with “older” (not necessary in age) hands sharing their wisdom and experience. We climb together, leaving no one behind and every small victory is celebrated. We are united by our common appreciation of the journey:
- Examining animal tracks (red deer, roe deer, hare and fox prints),
- Admiring the "natural sculptures" of overturned tree roots,
- Or simply sharing a steadying hand on a steep incline.

Cozy Nights & Alpine Delights
One final steep push led us to our charming mountain hut. With windows adorned with paintings of mountain flowers, it was already oozing alpine culture before we entered. We spent the evening exactly as we needed: stretching, resting, reading, and refuelling with a traditional Bavarian feast of Knödel and Kaiserschmarrn. And with just enough energy for a few rounds of cards before our beds called.

The Final Descent to Spitzingsee
Sunday greeted us with brilliant sun and fresh air. Boosted by breakfast and a good coffee, we hit the trails again, spotting the skeletal remnants of summer gentian peeking through the drifts and more animal prints to study. We climbed steadily over a final pass, feeling stronger and celebrating the shared experience and accomplishment.

As we descended toward Spitzingsee, joining the happy buzz of local tobogganers and day-trippers from Munich, we shared a sense of calm and renewal that our collective time together through this adventure gave- reflecting on the power of time in the outdoors for disconnecting and recharging the batteries.
A heartfelt thank you to every woman who joined us. You made this weekend a relaxed, fun, and deeply supportive experience.
Join us on the trails!
